The End of Book Publishing As We Know It

few days ago, I watched a video demo of the “SI Tablet” (see video below), a new eBook device developed by Time, Inc. and The Wonderfactory. It demonstrates how a touch screen, portability, and the convergence of text, audio, and video can create unprecedented opportunities for content providers. Frankly, it is the most compelling media device I have seen yet

I'm never going to be one of those people who buys these. Sorry I just can't. I like computers because they aren't consumer devices. I can produce whatever I want using the computer. These so called "media devices" are just one way consumer devices, meant for mindless drones. Waste of time. I don't own a TV. If I am watching something on a TV I feel bad. I'm not saying I don't consume media, I'm saying I will never consume media on a device on which I can't produce media. It might be what the rest of the world wants, but for me its just wrong.

First Build of Google Chrome OS on Dell Mini 10v Netbook

This is so sad... all those brains at Google and this is what they come up with!

I don't like chrome OS ...

  • I don’t like everything running in a browser
  • I like native applications
  • I like rich applications
  • I like native clients that use an API to access web services
  • I like all the standardization in UI (remember the Dos days, same thing in the web world today)
  • What was the point of NaCL? Obviously there is a need for native code
  • Alternative interfaces (netbook remix type interfaces, webbook, chromeOS) aren’t any better in terms of ease of use
  • Sure ease of use is important, expecting people to install an application is also important
  • Have you seen/used Google wave’s interface? If you haven’t, it sucks!
  • Love the idea of fastboot, wish they’d improve Linuxs boot times instead of working on chrome OS
  • Love the idea of fastboot, wish they’d improve linux standby/hibernate resume times instead of working on chrome OS
  • Want to create a new OS, how about contributing to haiku, or syllable or any of the other countless cool alternative OS's out there? (to their credit they have with their summer of code projects, but how about more official backing)
  • Services... everytime I think services I'm reminded of my phone, and how I wish it was different. And you want to bring the services model to software?!

Just had to get that of my chest.
